Phnom Penh, January 27th 2008: On Sunday at 5.53am, the ChildSafe hotline received a call from a 24 year old street living youth. He was attacked by a gangster and injured his shoulder after he refused to give all his money to the gangster. Because the wound was bleeding a lot he called the ChildSafe hotline to help him. After getting the call, the ChildSafe Hotline manager contacted our medical staff to go and meet him and take the young man to the hospital. He was treated at the Municipal hospital for one night then he left the hospital. The Medical team at Mith Samlanh supported him by providing food and paid the hospital services fees. The Outreach team and Drug team continued to follow up his case. A few weeks later, he decided to go back to his hometown with his older brother to get treatment there.

Phnom Penh, January 20th 2008: On Sunday at 9 o’clock in the morning two girls arrived in Phnom Penh from Takeo province to look for a job. One girl was 15 years old and the other was 17 years old. On arriving at the bus station, a Safe Migration member (motodup) noticed them looking lost so he called the ChildSafe Hotline. After getting the call, the ChildSafe Hotline manager contacted a social worker who went to meet the girls and after talking with them, took them to stay at Mith Samlanh’s Transitional Home. On Monday, the staff referred the case to Mith Samlanh’s placement team. The team provided counseling and the girls decided to go back to their home town. The placement team took them back to their families in Takeo where they will try to find a job which is safe.

A few hours later the doctors at the municipal hospital did not have enough materials to save the boy's life so they referred the boy to Kohsamak Hospital. The boy had an operation and X-ray. The ChildSafe Hotline manager contacted the staff to go there and take the girl to the transitional home where she was safe and received counseling. On the next morning we referred the girl to placement team at Mith Samlanh. The staff tried to find the family of the girl. The girl was referred back to her parents. Phnom Penh, 22 November 2007: A 2 year old handicapped girl was found abandoned on the street. She cannot speak; she could move but could not walk or stand. The police at the Phsa Damkor market found her and called ChildSafe Hotline. After getting the call the staff went to take the girl to stay at a safe place – Mith Samlanh’s Transitional Home. Placement team took her photo to show on TV to try to find her family. So far her family has not been found. Currently the girl is staying with a short-time foster family. ChildSafe and Mith Samlanh teams are trying hard to find a long term solution for her – either a long-term foster family or an NGO which is specialized to work with young handicapped children.
